What is marketing?

Define marketing: Marketing is creating business growth goals and taking action steps to achieve them.

This definition is my shortened version of what Dr. Don Shemwell from ETSU offers in Module 1 of the course Principles of Marketing  on iTunes U. Professor Shemwell goes into significant detail about what the marketing action steps are. I highly recommend that you download the course even if you are in the industry; revisiting first principles is a great way to sharpen your skills.
